Resources
and Information on HIV Testing

June 2011 June
27 is National HIV Testing Day (NHTD). NHTD was founded in
1995 by the National Association of People With AIDS (NAPWA)
in response to the HIV epidemic's steady growth, particularly
in marginalized communities to encourage routine HIV-testing
and to promote culturally-apt messages for those affected
by and living with HIV/AIDS. Studies show that when people
find out they are living with HIV, they take steps to protect
their own health (by seeking medical care) and that of their
partners. The CDC recommends testing for HIV once a year (or
more frequently) for people at high risk, such as gay and
bisexual men, injection drug users, or people with multiple
sexual partners.
